Terms of Service

Effective date: July 19, 2026. An agreement between you and the publisher of Playtime covering the app on iOS and Android, musicutil.com, and Maestro Academy (academy.musicutil.com).

By using the app you accept these terms. If you downloaded Playtime from the Apple App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies, and these terms supplement it.

1. The service

Playtime is a music practice toolkit: audio practice tools, ear-training and theory games, songwriting aids, a drum machine, sheet-music capture, and the optional Maestro AI tutor. Maestro Academy is its web classroom companion: lessons, curricula, quizzes, live games, teacher tools and the TA teaching assistant. Features may change as the services evolve.

2. Your content

Everything you create — recordings, songs, charts, lyric sheets, scores, setlists, lessons, curricula, quizzes — is yours. We claim no ownership. App content stored locally never reaches us. You are responsible for having the rights to material you record, import, photograph, fetch or publish (see section 5). Teachers who publish lessons or other content in the Academy grant their students a license to view and use it inside the Academy, and are responsible for what it contains.

3. Accounts

Some features require an account (a Maestro/Playtime account, or an Academy teacher or student account). Keep credentials confidential; you're responsible for activity under your account. Student class accounts are created under a teacher's class and are managed by that teacher and school. You can delete your account at any time — see deleting your account.

3a. Discount programs

We offer discounted access to verified teachers and students (via school email or a class), and to U.S. veterans and active-duty service members (on the honor system). These programs are a courtesy, not a right: we may verify eligibility, and may revoke or adjust a discount that was claimed dishonestly or abused.

4. Subscriptions and purchases

Optional paid plans are billed through the App Store or Google Play as auto-renewing subscriptions at the price shown before purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and are managed or cancelled in your store account settings. Store refund policies apply. Prices may change with notice; changes take effect at the next renewal.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the app to infringe copyright or other rights — fetching chords, lyrics, scores or audio is for your personal practice and study only;
  • abuse the Maestro service (attempts to bypass rate or spending limits, extract provider credentials, generate unlawful or harmful content, or interfere with the service);
  • reverse engineer, resell or redistribute the app or the Maestro service except where law permits.

We may suspend or terminate Maestro access for abuse; local features remain yours.

6. AI features (Maestro and TA)

Maestro and TA responses are generated by an AI model. They can be wrong, incomplete or unsuitable — use judgment, especially for anything beyond music practice and teaching. AI output is provided as-is and is not professional advice. AI usage is metered: your plan's token/request allowance is shared across the app and the Academy, free tiers may exclude some AI features, and allowances, models and limits may change. Attempting to bypass limits or safety rules is a breach of section 5.

6a. Classroom conduct

Live Games rooms and other shared spaces must be kept appropriate for all school ages: no harassment, no offensive names or avatars, no disruption of other people's sessions. Teachers are responsible for supervising their classes; we may close rooms or suspend accounts that abuse shared spaces.

6b. Copyright complaints (DMCA)

If you believe content available through our services infringes your copyright, email support@musicutil.com with "DMCA" in the subject, identifying the work, the allegedly infringing material, your contact information, and a statement of good-faith belief under penalty of perjury. We will remove or disable access to infringing material and may terminate repeat infringers.

7. Third-party services

The app can contact third-party websites and services at your request (chord and score sites, audio URLs, Anthropic for AI). Their terms govern their services; we are not responsible for third-party content or availability.

8. Disclaimers and liability

The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind to the extent permitted by law. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

9. Termination

You may stop using the app at any time. We may terminate these terms if you materially breach them. Sections 2, 6, 8 and 10 survive termination.

10. General

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, USA, excluding conflict-of-law rules. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. We may update these terms; material changes will be shown in the app or on this page with a new effective date, and continued use after that constitutes acceptance. All our policies live at musicutil.com/legal.
